CHENGDU | The New Fashion Powerhouse in China

When people talk about cities in China, most of them would think of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, but there is a gem that you can’t ignore anymore: Chengdu, the capital city in Sichuan province. It’s famous for hot pot, pandas and quickly becoming the leading fashion city in west China.

Currently, China’s average GDP growth rate is 7.2%, Chengdu’s GDP growth rate remains at around 12%, its success and long history cause it to stand out as a “must visit” location in the west of China. Chengdu appeals to plenty of tourists, coming to sightsee, eat fantastic food or shop the hottest new fashion trends.

Compared to average house prices in Beijing which are $9922.9/㎡, house prices are often around $1648.8/㎡ in Chengdu – this implies that the local residents have more disposable income for consumption. In addition, the life attitude in Chengdu is more focused on enjoying your life rather than long term saving. Super brands such as Balenciaga, Lane Crawford, Burberry, and Dior saw the bright future in Chengdu, they set their first flagship shop in west China in Chunxi Road which is now the most famous commercial street in the city.

Besides these world famous luxury brands, young people of Chengdu are open-minded and always looking for something fresh and original, hence there are also many individual designers’ brands based in Chengdu. You could find them in selected shops down below such as Lane Crawford, Dressing for Fun (耍衫) and Hug.
