Today Balenciaga dropped some new images from its upcoming SS18 Men and Kid’s collections in a series of instagram posts, featuring IRL families. It seems like Demna Gvasalia together with his team went back to the ’80s and ’90s for inspiration and it’s getting a lot of criticism. Some are loving the old-school aesthetic – the concept of the awkwardly staged family against a vintage backdrop where the dad is in the focus. While others calling Gvasalia to be fired because he’s making Balenciaga stray very far from its roots and throwing away Cristobal Balenciaga’s legacy. Harsh!!
Earlier this year, in his SS18 show Demna Gvasalia stated that “young dads in the park with their kids” served as inspiration for this collection and this campaign visualizes that concept perfectly which we appreciate. However, we do agree with the fact that Gvasalia is straying far from Balenciaga’s roots and taken a completely different turn.
Do you think Cristobal Balenciaga would love this collection and where Balenciaga is going? Let us know what you think.
